THE town of Bewdley was buzzing over the Bank Holiday weekend as the 11th Spring Fair came to town.

Despite the weather, visitors packed into the town to enjoy the events, entertainment and local produce on offer making it one of the most successful events to date.

Severnside South was crammed with stall holders selling a wide range of local products for visitors to browse and buy, while Bewdley Museum held a number of attractions in Jubilee Gardens and in the museum itself.

Local musicians braved the weather and performed in the Green Theatre as well as busking around the town to entertain visitors, and demonstrations of various crafts, skills and artistry were held in the museum and Jubilee Gardens.

The Spring Fair was originally set up to encourage tourism and business back into the town following the installation of the flood defences and has gone from strength to strength attracting visitors from outside the area.

The most popular event of the weekend was the Bewdley Salad Challenge on Monday afternoon, won by Emma Passey from Paisley Flour Catering.

The Shambles Café, the Mug House, the Hop Pole and Paisley Flour Catering all engaged in the culinary battle under the watchful eyes of the judges – the Mayor of Bewdley, Councillor Calne Edginton-White and Hewitt Recruitment’s strategic development director, Ben Mannion – to create the best and most innovative salad with ingredients provided by Bewdley Farm Shop, with condiments from the Deli @ Bewdley.

Cllr Edginton-White said: “It is truly wonderful to witness such talent and celebrate the skills of our local chefs.

“They have created such amazing culinary works of art from local produce leaving no doubt that Bewdley is certainly a centre for appetising expertise.”
