Four girls have been picked to lead the parade at the 50th anniversary of Bewdley Carnival.

Scarlett Hodges, 10, and Lola Dyoss Jones, five, from Bewdley Primary School, and Maisie Allen, six, and Grace Darby, nine, from St Anne’s Primary School, have been picked as the Bewdley princesses to lead the anniversary parade on Saturday, June 11.

Organisers are also appealing to carnival princesses from yesteryear to join in the celebrations. The parade will leave Hales Park at around 1pm, before making its way to Bewdley town centre.

The afternoon entertainment will take place on the leisure centre field.

Sue Matthews, of the Bewdley Carnival committee, said: “We are putting the final details to the days events which this year include the Van Burden Show – this show combines illusions, magic, escapology and circus skills in a traditional style with a modern approach.

“Also on the carnival field will be a Glamba Samba percussion group, HCW Wrestling, Bewdley Concert Band, Severnside School of Dancing, West Midlands Ta Kwon Do, Simon Airey the animal man.

“There will also be a funfair, many stalls and refreshments.”

Anyone who wishes to have a stall at this year’s carnival, can book by calling Angie Pitt on 01299 402723. The cost is £10 in advance, or £15 on the day.

The fireworks display, provided by Bewdley Town Council, will be held on the Saturday evening (June 11) – instead of the normal Friday evening – to celebrate the Queen’s birthday as well as the 50th anniversary of Bewdley Carnival.
