A flytipper has paid a total of £600 in fines after making two trips to dump rubbish outside Hoobrook household recycling centre on Boxing Day.

Following an interview by Wyre Forest District Council’s enforcement officers, the perpetrator was issued – and paid – two resulting fixed penalty notices.

Another eleven acts of flytipping which took place outside the gates of Worcestershire County Council’s Hoobrook household recycling centre, Kidderminster whilst it was closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day are still being investigated by the council.

Councillor John Thomas, Cabinet Member for Operational Services said: “Flytipping is a criminal offence. It is thoughtless, anti-social and goes against everything we are trying to do to keep the district a safe, clean and green living environment.

“I’m delighted we were able to fine one offender and our enforcement officers are working tirelessly to make sure the other offenders are brought to book.”

Councillor Helen Dyke, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Protection said:  “During the festive period we promoted the centre’s closing dates and reminded people that dumping rubbish outside its gates will be treated as flytipping. Unfortunately, some people decided to break the law.

“As part of our work to combat flytipping, we’re running a SCRAP Flytipping campaign. I’d urge members of the public if they see any future incidents of littering or dumping rubbish, to report it to us straight away by visiting our website at www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk/flytipping and filling out the short online form.”
