A guided tour and update from WFDC and contractors Montel on construction of the new Load street car park took place last week.

Work should be completed by the 13th April.

A few points of clarification from the Montel Site Manager and WFDC are:

  • the existing Load street car park will be resurfaced and re lined as part of the contract;

  • the huge amount of excavation is to accommodate the new retaining wall. They’ve had to remove 300 cubic tons of soil which will be replaced and reinforced by concrete;

  • there will be 51 spaces, meaning the total for the whole Load street site will be around 100 spaces;

  • the new part will be long stay with the existing car park remaining as short stay. Disabled spaces will remain at existing level;

  • the new part will be at a lower level than the existing car park accessible by a ramp.

Tom Kirkland is the site manager and is more than happy to be approached on site to answer any queries or concerns from members of the public.

I hope this provides a little more information than we had before and the Town Council will keep in close contact with Steve Brant from WFDC and Tom as the weeks progress.
