Mayor Welcomes Tractors to Bewdley
Bewdley Town Council
HUNDREDS of people lined the streets of Bewdley for the annual charity fundraising Tractor Run.
The event, which is now a firm favourite in the festive calendar, was held in memory of Harry Bray, who sadly passed away this year. He started the first tractor run and his friends and colleagues thought this was a fitting memorial to him.
Funds raised go to a different local charity each year; this year’s chosen charity is the Rory the Robot Appeal – an appeal for funding towards the cost of a surgical robot for prostate cancer patients in Worcestershire.
ractor drivers and their supporters gathered at Far Forest Sports Pavilion on Boxing Day to enjoy early morning bacon and sausage sandwiches before High Sheriff Stephen Betts sounded the horn start the event
Bewdley Mayor Anna Coleman and Deputy Mayor Roger Coleman greeted the convoy once they arrived at the finish in Severnside South.
And the efforts of all the drivers saw then amass more than £2,000 for the appeal.
A spokesman for the event said: “The precision planning meant all the tractors were guided smoothly into Severnside South whilst also trying to keep the traffic flowing and causing minimal disruption.
“It was heartening to see so many people out to support the event. Severnside South was lined three-deep with spectators and the kids enjoyed having their photo with the Rory mascot.
“Credit must go to Ray Attwood, of Bridgnorth Vintage Tractor Machinery Club, Tony Pain, Tractor and Engine club – Alveley and members of the local prostate cancer support group, for arranging the event, everything went off without a hitch.
“The organisers are also very grateful to Murley Agricultural Supplies (Sandy Lane Industrial Estate) for sponsoring the event and hope to get even more local businesses involved next year.
“The total raised was over £2000. Everyone was thrilled with this amount and thanks to everyone who turned out to support the event.”
