Vintage and Handmade Market for Bewdley
Bewdley Town Council
A NEW market is set to “revive” trade in Bewdley and attract more visitors to the town.
Bewdley Town Council has announced a new Vintage, Antiques and Handmade Market which will take place on the riverside every second Sunday of the month – starting on Sunday, July 10.
Residents and visitors will be able to pick up items from handwoven handbags, retro homeware and art to upcycled wood products, handmade lighting and furniture.
The initiative has been created by the council after it was identified during the recent Neighbourhood Plan survey, residents’ desire for a new market to be held regularly within Bewdley.
“Hopefully this will attract a lot more people to the town and revive Bewdley – that’s what our plan is.
“A lot of local residents asked for this – they wanted a new outdoor market in Bewdley and this is what we have come up with. We are not just doing a service, we are acting on what residents have asked for.
“It is all very exciting for the town.”
Councillor John Beeson, Bewdley Mayor and manager of Bewdley Farm Shop, added: “I am certainly hoping the new market will help revive trade in the town.
“Anything that brings extra visitors in to Bewdley is to be welcomed.
“There is plenty of scope for bringing in all sorts of different themed markets in the future – we will see how well received this is, then plan for the future.
“The Neighbourhood Plan identified a need for markets. The main criteria residents have suggested are things you cannot currently buy in Bewdley.
“It is our hope that these markets will compliment existing shops and create a shopping destination for people.
“There is a huge interest in vintage, antique and handmade items and I am really looking forward to another vibrant market in Bewdley.”
The monthly market has been organised by the town council, but will be operated by CJ’s Events Warwickshire.
Traders interested in holding a stall should call CJ’s Events on 01926 800750.
